A strong shadow can add great effect to a photograph. As a compositional element that is used to draw the eye, however, a shadow can be a defining feature of an entire image. It’s time for another competition!

First to the important part – the prizes!!!

How to Enter

Now this is the simplest thing ever.

Step 1) Go to the Light Stalking Facebook Group and make a new post on the wall. (It can be a tip, a question or a photograph).

Step 2) Get as many friends and others to like your post as possible.

That’s it!

The Judging

We will log into the Facebook group next Wednesday, September 1 and look for the three posts with the most likes. The top three will be the winners.

The Rules

Every post made on the wall between now and the draw date is eligible.

Use your common sense. If you have to ask “is it allowed” then just assume that it isn’t. Any shonky entries will be deleted.

Photographing smoke can often be a tricky endeavor as it can throw up all sorts of weird exposure problems. On the upside, however, it can really be used nicely to enhance the composition of a photograph.

These photos all use smoke in some way to enhance the composition of the image. Whether it is to provide a sense of movement, to guide the eye with lines or to provide a atmospheric layering effect, they all effectively use smoke to create a more interesting photo.

If you’ve ever sat outside on a porch at night in the summer, you’ve no doubt seen moths come fluttering to the light.  Similar to, but not part of the butterfly family, there are thought to be over 250,000 different types of moths.  From a photography standpoint, moths can be one of the hardest insects to shoot because they are nocturnal.  Shooting time is very limited and either requires the use of a flash or very high ISO.  Because of shooting situations, it’s not overly common to see high quality macro shots, so enjoy these macro moth photos.
