Allows Edits? YesIt’s that time in the Northern Hemisphere (my condolences to my friends “down under”) for the leaves to turn all sorts of pretty colors. While I miss the reds of the New England maples, the yellows of the Kansas aspens are beautiful too. WHAT COLOR ARE YOUR LEAVES?

Gorgeous yellow and orange in that scene Richard… so vibrant.
I wouldn’t feel sorry for the folks down under though…spring is beautiful too…and they get summer soon…my favourite time of year…I don’t look forward to winter. 🙂 -

Thanks @karamen … yes… a skylight in my upstairs bathroom gives a great view of the tall hardwoods that tower above the house in the side yard. When it’s blustery and raining, leaves often fall and stick to the window like this. I love the image it creates and I’ve taken many photos from this vantage point. This one was a chance to use a little artistic touch in Lightroom and Photoshop. 🙂

Here is the non-cropped version, @ed-aldridge. I think I was trying to be more dramatic zoning in on the leaves and chair. Thanks for the suggestion. What do you think? I can back up further and retake, but then my driveway gets in the image.

November 7, 2013 at 6:04 am #112553
I was wondering if there was something either side that would intrude. The reason I asked is because the white chair really stands out amongst those other bright, vibrant colours, if you were able to pull back to show the whole tree but keep it so the surrounding was just leaves I think it would look great although the chair would be smaller in the image I think it would still be a poetic focal point, who sat in the chair where are they now sort of thing… I’m starting to worry I might be getting a tad pretentious in my oldish age… 🙂
Anyway they are both lovely shots, my personal preference is for the uncropped version but photography is highly subjective and you shouldn’t pay too much attention to what I say..

I like the story telling idea behind your suggestion, @ed-aldridge. In the perfect world I might be able to achieve it. It seems the more of the tree I reveal, the more background distractions show up, which is one of the reasons I tweaked the mid tones. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

@karamen well both versions were great, I love the colours of the leaves, I love the idea of the old chair waiting for summer when it can be useful again. Lovely picture 🙂

I love the contrast, too, @ed-aldridge. If it weren’t so heavy, I would carry that chair around until I found the perfect settings for it. I imagine a whole series..”Seated Journey’s” 🙂

I managed to get out last weekend in the Chicago area and get some shots of the fall leaves. A storm came later in the week and blew most of them off the trees.

Well done Cara. Leaves we’re vibrant this year for sure. Sadly it was a shorter window of opportunity than in years past. Nice well composed shots.

Thanks @carolannphotos … I don’t fool around with filters that often …but it’s a nice diversion sometimes just to see what you can create and this image seemed to lend itself to some artistry. 🙂
