I Live on a Small Ranch in Livermore Colorado, in the Rocky Mountains, about 50 miles from the nearest city. This is an area where many remnants of ancient civilization can still be found going back to the stone age, and was formerly home to the Arapaho and Cheyenne Native American Tribes, and then Settled by pioneers and mountain men in the mid to late 1700’s. My mountain is there in the distance.

o Hobbies and interests?
Besides Photography I work in woods and along with other things hand make Native American flutes, I also create Metal sculptures from discarded machinery parts, discarded farm and ranch materials and other scarp metals, Make my own Beer, and love to fish.
o How long you have had an interest in photography
o What got you interested in photography?I can remember having a fisher price camera when I was very young but my parents couldn’t afford a whole lot of film back in those days .Later in life I remember both my mother and grandmother had dark rooms and were big time flower photographers, but at that point I was more interested in what explosives I could make from their chemicals and there were some glorious explosions. Then when I was a young Parent the bug took hold and there were hundreds of disposable cameras and things compounded as there were available funds.
• What is the best advice you received so far regarding photography?
I am going to credit Chris Pook with that and say it was making my photos about one thing.
• How do you maintain inspiration?
Inspiration really hasn’t been an issue, There always seems to be something I find interesting.
• What is your favourite subject to shoot and why?
I do love close ups of insects, its fun to explore their hidden world. I guess it goes back to being a young boy with a magnifying glass and a busy ant hill.
• Do you have a favourite type of photography?
o (B&W, Macro, Landscapes, Astrophotography, etc.)Definitely Macro, which is more of a winter project for myself, and my addiction to a good sunrise or set.
• How would you describe your photographic journey to date?
o Self taught?
o Formal training?
o Mentor?I am self taught for the most part, lots of books and articles but I also love to experiment .
• Are you currently involved with any photography projects? If so, what?
I finished a project last weekend photographing rock formations around are area, When the Arapaho lived here there was a place known to them as Spirit Well which is a valley filled with many strange and interesting shapes. Many people see faces in them and a few have names and I would like to share a few here.

• If you could only use one camera/lens combination for a year, which would you choose?
It would have to be my EM1 Olympus with a vintage Soligor 28-80 macro focusing f2.5 lens. Its one of my favorite lenses and is tack sharp for being 30 years old.
• What is your favorite image right now?
Well I have two pick two, there is one of my Wife I have shared here before.

I lived for a time on a reservation and my Native name was “Sings with wolves” for my habit of howling with the wolves at a young age, But later in life I was given the name “Talks to Trees” and this place affected me with its beauty and spirit.

• Is a photographer that inspires you?
John Fielder did a really cool project a while back finding Photos from the 1800’s and then attempting to position himself in the exact same spot where the other photographer stood shot another from in early 2000’s. Something which I have often tried to picture in my mind.
• What is your biggest challenge when it comes to photography?
Well I have a eiditec memory which comes in handy hiking in the back country but can make editing photos or trying to communicate what I saw and how I saw it rather difficult. At times it is a blessing but can also be a curse. Imagine no matter how you crop a photo the discarded pixels never leave.

The constant search on how to pass on a feeling a scene created to someone else, every photo seems to have a different way of doing that as different people have a different way of perceiving what they see.

Hi Robert,
Your story reflect your images and vice versa.The rock formations project is fascinating. You say you finished that project but I would love to see your pictures of it at dusk and dawn. That could make them really dramatic.
Your hobby/ interest to create Metal sculptures from discarded machinery parts remind me of when I was young, I made small sculptures from plastic parts left over from building model airplanes. When I was 11, I even went to the museum of modern art in Amsterdam with one of my art pieces in a shoe box. I had an appointment with the director of the museum but after waiting a whole morning in the hallway, he never showed up. That did not discourage me of going on with my art. I made them for myself.
