Allows Edits? YesHey, welcome to the site! This thread is to introduce yourself to the rest of the community with a few sentences about yourself!
I’ll go first.
I am Rob Wood – the founder of Light Stalking. I got into photography because my mum was a very serious amateur photographer who was published in a few photography magazines when I was a kid. We even had a purpose built darkroom when I was young.
My first SLR was the Canon AE-1 and I continued taking photography courses through high school and learned all about working in a darkroom at that time (both school and home).
I always maintained a pretty strong interest in photography, but really started taking it seriously again when I combined my love of writing, photography and websites to build Light Stalking in 2009. At that point, I realised there was a LOT more to learn.
Anyway, scroll to the bottom of the page and introduce yourself!
Cheers,
RobPS – If you have any questions, they are probably answered in our FAQs. (Top of right column)

Hi, I’m Pein.
Picked up a camera at 16 in high school and only started looking and seeing quite recently. Better late than not getting somewhere at all.
Time, Lines, are of interest to me, and what happens within and also without.
Let’s see what happens.
Cheers!!!

Hi, my login disappeared as well…I’m back on board. I am a photographer in southern Ohio; I enjoy reading the information Lightstalking posts and I frequently share the information with our camera club. thanks for all of the great information you share!
I started out with a Nikon F back in the late 1970’s; my favorite camera was my F2 which I still use on occasion. I switched to digital in about 2008…yes, I was a film holdout! I currently use a Nikon 800E. I participate in a lot of competitions in our tristate area.
Thanks!

Hi I am Galore, I am retired and my son who is a wildlife photographer introduced me to photography. I decided to do a Diploma in photography and started to shoot Landscapes. Still in the learning process but will eventually get there. I also use Lightroom and sometimes Photoshop as i only shoot in Raw.
I initially bought a Canon 1Dx but found it a bit too heavy to carry with my 70 – 200 mm lens. I love the outdoors and can walk long distances to get to some spots. I use a tripod but because of its weight sometimes leave it in the car and shoot at faster shutter speeds.
I hope to improve my photography and often go on a photography safari with my lovely wife and at the same time enjoy the West Australian Outdoors. I recently switch over to a Canon 6D and found it much more suited to my circumstances as it is way lighter than my 1Dx.
Thanks
Galore-

Allows Edits? YesHi Galore, and welcome. I was thinking 1Dx or 5Dr for my next camera. Had great use out of my 5Dii and hope to have it another 20 years, but I could probably stretch to an upgrade in the new year… hmm….
-
November 16, 2015 at 12:01 pm #212405
Hi Chris Pook,
Yes the 1Dx is a superb camera but it is too heavy for my liking. I would rather go for the 5dS with the 52 mp sensor. Will still think what to do. My 1Dx did about 5000 on shutter count and is now out of favour in my books!-
November 16, 2015 at 12:22 pm #212408
@galore777 5000 shutter count on the 1Dx… how long did you have that machine for?

Hi, I’m Twna, from Western Colorado. I got started when my son graduated High School and my then husband bought me my first digital camera, a Sony DSCH-2. My son went to work on a cattle ranch and I discovered that I had an affinity for shooting working cowboys and horses.
After 11 years, I’m still shooting Sony, but have upgraded twice, most recently to an A65, which I love. I m mostly self-taught. I took an online course through a local technical college, and have attended two workshops with professional photographers, Tony Stromberg and Lisa Dearing.
I have sold a handful of pieces, but have so much more to learn. Seems true that in any endeavor you engage in, the more you learn, the more there is to learn.
I was introduced to Lightroom last summer as a result of it being a requirement for the workshop I attended with Lisa Dearing, and I have come to love it.
I’m happy to be here.

I’ve been dicking around with my D3300 for several months. I don’t have a decent computer right now so almost everything I’ve taken remains straight out of camera. Nonetheless, I’ve managed to capture some very pretty shots, usually by employing a lot of advice I’ve found in places like this.
I’m eager to learn more!

I’m Chris and currently a photography student in college. Once I finish my 2 year degree I plan on working towards my BFA then MFA so I can teach photography on the college/university level.
I love working in the darkroom and using film but also enjoy working with digital photography just as much. I currently shoot with a Pentax K-3, sigma DP2Merrill, and Samsung mirrorless for both color and infrared. -

Hi, I’m Tyler
I’m analytical by nature and photography provides me with a great outlet. I discovered photography in 2013 during a trip to the Himalayas to see the great Mt. Everest.
I shoot using the Sony Alpha Mount system and have pretty entry level equipment. My primary interests are the outdoors, namely local wildlife and landscapes.
I’m always looking for ways to get better and want to master my current system before dropping big bucks on next level gear.
Looking forward to exploring the site.

Hi folks, born in Canada residing in the Niagara Region just West of Niagara Falls ON. I’ve always love the art of photography but could never devote my time to it do to life experiences job, family and so on.
I purchase my first SLR (Canon AE1) many years ago but never educated myself on how to take good photographs and operate the camera itself therefore loosing interest. Three short yrs. ago nearing my retirement date i decided to revisit the art and purchased my first entry level DSLR (Canon t4i) and been loving the art since.
I am self taught by watching hundreds if not thousands of videos, blogs and many websites. I look forward to meeting many and reading all the members critics and reviews.
Thanks to all (Shutter1950) Rene -

Hi everyone.
As a working mother of two, I always loved the art of photography, but never really enjoyed taking pictures.
I was fortunate enough to become a stay at home mom last year and took up a basic photography course. And I have not looked back since.
Enjoying taking pictues of everyone and everything that I find interresting, is one of my favourite pastimes.

Hi, I’m Fred. I’ve had an interest in photography since I was a teen. I purchased my first SLR in 1978 I think it was. My first camera was a Minolta XG-M which was a great camera for that era. I had a film subscription with Seattle Film Works back then and I did spend a lot of green on film.
I changed to digital as soon as knew about them. I forget what my first one was, but I have been through about 5 cameras since then. My most recent camera was a Canon 70D and I love it. It has rekindled my interest in photography, and that is why I am here. I am eager to learn more.
I currently live in Central Kentucky. Kentucky is a beautiful state, lots of natural features like the Daniel Boone National Forest. Cumberland Falls, Red River Gorge, and all of the Kentucky horse farms. Lots of opportunity for outdoor shooting.
My current job requires me to shoot about 95% indoors. I’m a Realtor. I shoot the majority of my Brokers listings. I guess I average maybe 200-600 photos a week.
My post processing software include the photoshop CC package. I use Lightroom as my main editor.
Other interest include my amazing church, my lovely wife and my wonderful children and grandchildren. I also love to shoot not only cameras but firearms. I enjoy cycling, I ride about 2500 miles per year, so I also shoot a GoPro camera while riding.
I guess that about sums me up. Thanks!

Hi,
I am from Kolkata, India, I am sixty years old, a father, an engineer and of course a photography enthusiast. I started with a Minolta SRT202b, a film SLR, in the year of 1980 and continued seriously as an amateur till 1990. Then due to some personal reasons I could not continue till 2010. Then again I have started with a digital camera and surprised to see the power of digital photography and editing. I am a random photographer, shoot practically anything and everything I feel like. -

I am still getting a feel for all of the features and characteristics of the camera (Nikon D5200). My previous experience in art has been through painting. So far, I have been very excited with the photographic process. But, i want to learn more.

My name is Rob. I enjoy all types of photography, but up here in northern Thailand, I tend to take landscapes, nature and quirky things in the village we live in. Previous to Chiang Rai, we lived in Singapore for a couple of decades, so I have done a fair bit of street photography as well over the years. Currently using two cameras for most of my stuff – an Olympus EM-5 and a Ricoh GR.
I enjoy photography, and hope to get better though the kind people who visit this site! -

Allows Edits? NoHi everyone!
My name is Natalie and I’m from Perth, Western Australia.
I’m 22 years old and been studying photography for the past 8 years. I like to use my dslr canon 60d camera but being looking at upgrading.
I specialise in Pregnancy, Newborn & Toddler photos, photos of Families or Romantic Couple photos, Model & Corporate Portfolios and Personalised Photo Session.
I love creating fun quirky unique styled shoots, so modern pinups or themed shoots would definitely be my favourites style. I also enjoy to cover a lot of special events such as Weddings, Birthdays, Baby Showers & Engagement Parties or Corporate functions and on some occasions Concerts & Band Gigs!I had always loved taking photos as a hobby but I would have to say that the time I realised my passion of becoming a photographer was when I found a album containing my grandparents wedding photos. They were the typical vintage black & white images captured with film which I fell in love with and I kept thinking to myself about much people cherish these single moments captured in time and how precious they are for us be able to reflect on later in life. It sparked my interest to want to study photography.
I began to study photography at high school working In the dark room then moving onto completing a few TAFE courses. Living in a country town I didn’t have to many options to be able to study the industry hands on so the local newspaper was where I started gaining Experience.
As soon as I graduated high school I moved to the city and I landed myself the most amazing job working in one of WA largest studios with photographers who were not only successful in the industry but who offered to take the time to personally mentor me to expand my knowledge of photography.
Working within the business allowed me the opportunity to learn and gain experience from some of the most creative photographers, being able to work along side them at Perths High Class Charity Events & Functions as well as assisting them with photo sessions of every type imaginable. Every single day was different and I loved every minute of it. Words can’t express how inspirational it was to work with a team of such unique artists.
I got to Experience hands on how to organise and handle each shoot no matter who the client was or what they wanted which is something they don’t teach you at TAFE.
Around the same time I also had the pleasure of being on the forefront of one of Australia’s leading Child Modelling agency. This gave me insight into the fashion modelling industry and being a mother myself, this just made my experience that much more enjoyable as I love working with children & families.Alas,5 years on it was time for me to take my journey onwards.
I took the big step of being able to live my passion every day of the week by quitting my full time job and starting my own business, NVS Photography.
Admittedly it was one of the most scariest things I’ve done, not knowing when to expect the next pay cheque whilst having a family made things tricky but with the support of my husband and friends & family, each month become easier and easier.I am so proud of what I have achieved so far. From starting out with not minimal knowledge about the industry at all to where I am today, I can’t even imagine where I’ll be in 5 years time.
Apologies for the story book. I know it said only a few sentences but once I started typing it just began to flow.
Hope I didn’t bore anyone to much.-

Allows Edits? NoHi, I’m Michelle. As a kid someone bought me a kodak disc camera, and I have always loved “taking pictures”. I have been taking it up a notch the last few years. I took some continuing education classes at our local community college, and got my digital photography certificate. I am exploring other learning avenues. I love nature photography and street photography.

Hello my name is Angela! I considered myself a photographer 3 years ago. Then I had a stroke and couldn’t get the creative side back and couldn’t really hold the camera. However!!! I’m trying now and trying to re-learn everything again! It’s a journey well worth the time!

Hi,
I’m Joop from Tiel in the Netherlands
I used to photograph a lot in the analog days.
After my retirement I picked up digital and bought a Nikon D7100 with a couple of lenses. But all that gear became a bit heavy on bike and hike tours and vacation.
So I now use a Lumix Dmc FZ1000. I hope I can learn from this site even if I don’t use a DSLR anymore. -

Allows Edits? NoHi All.
My name is Caroline, and am currently in New England. I’ve enjoyed photography for years, beginning with learning how to develop film eons ago in high school. For many years my kids were my primary subjects and I tried hard to tell stories through the pictures I took of them. More recently I’ve begun experimenting with different subjects, and really discovered that being behind a camera is one of my favorite places to be. Currently I use a Nikon D3100, and am very interested in learning more to take my photography to another level. -

Allows Edits? NoAlright so I guess here I go…
Hi, I’m Michelle.
My first DSLR camera and also still my only camera is the Nikon D3200 which I got June this year, thanks to my Husband for encouraging my stubborn self.
Took me years to realize that I really wanted to be a photographer because I simply love taking pictures of just about everything.
The photograph which inspires my style was a photo my mother took of my father years ago in a restaurant. We were sitting outside on the deck and there was a coin operated horse which my dad got onto just for the heck of it. It was funny and made a lasting impression for being unique.Unfortunately I can’t show you because my parents got divorced this year and I don’t know who received custody of the family photos…
So that’s my story :).
Michelle 🙂

My name is Leanne and I am an enthusiastic, beginner photographer. Bought a D3100 a few years ago and realized that I wasn’t using it to its fullest potential (manual mode all the way!). I decided to challenge myself in 2015 by taking a photograph a day. I asked for help from photographer friends and got ideas from sites like LS. At day 327, I feel like I have learned a lot and have so much more to learn. I figured it was time to be brave and join a photography community as my friends are very kind when viewing my photos, but I need some constructive criticism too! I live in beautiful British Columbia and enjoy playing with a broad range of photography (macro, landscape, portrait) right now. Excited to learn more!

I have a Canon6d, several lenses and I am somewhat comfortable with photoshop, though certainly not an expert, maybe just barely adept.

Hello, my name is Gerard. I got hooked on photography while in college (some 35+ years ago.) I had a Mamiya SLR which I wore out. I moved to a Canon film SLR, and reluctantly moved to digital in 2011 (I still think film is better.) There is so much more available, both in the camera and in post-processing. I feel like I’m back in college, figuring out shutter speed and f-stop. I was posting my pictures on another photo school site, but the critiques were garbage–mostly from people who never posted their own pictures but were very fast to rip others. In too many of the critiques they only used the buzz words–go back at golden hour, need more bokeh, etc., without offering anything of substance on how to improve the shot. I reviewed the critiques on this site and liked the way they were offered. I look forward to getting constructive critiques. Thanks for the invite.

I am retired now and use a Nikon D200 to shoot events (via wifi) and a Nikon D800 as an every day camera with a 24-70 lens. I use Lightroom 5 for post processing. Allows Edits? NoHello everyone, my name is Randy and I am Canadian. I wasn’t very interested in photography as a kid but when I joined the military and was posted to Germany I bought a Minolta Weathermatic Duel 35 and I took a lot of pictures. In the mid nineties I bought a Minolta X700 just before the digital age took over. Then after years of using digital point and shoots I recently purchased an Olympus OM-D EM5 Mark II and I have been trying to learn what it can do and practice with it as much as I can. I am very interested in astrophotography and landscapes and since my wife and I are finally starting to travel I plan on taking many travel photos. I don’t have any post processing software so I haven’t delved into that side of photography. I came to Lightstalking to learn and share.
Cheers

Hi, my name’s Mike and I’m from Southampton in the UK. I first picked up a camera at about 15, when I used to go out with my dad’s Praktika SLR. I then rediscovered photography about 8 years ago, when I got a Nikon D40. I’d describe myself as a keen amateur, staying loyal to Nikon with a D40, D60, D300 and D7100 with various lenses. I’m out every Sunday morning, taking shot’s for my son’s rugby team yo use on their web and Facebook page. I’d love to get out more, but due to work, it’s almost impossible to find the time.
I’ve therefore decided to challenge myself with a 366 day photo project starting on January 1st 2016. I’ll be posting my results here, and I’ll be looking forward to your feedback. I’d also appreciate any ideas for subjects to shoot over the course of the year. I have 1 month to plan. -

Hello, Im Philip I currently live in VA, and I have been in the Military for 18 years. I started being serious with photography about 5 years ago when I was going to spend 1 year over in Africa. That didn’t happen but I had a really good friend that was killed over seas and a anonymous person handed the family pictures from the funeral thats what really fulled my passion. I shoot with a Nikon D810.

Very much a newcomer to photography (although it shares a lot in common with the physics behind my day-to-day job regarding the physics of medical imaging on patients), and currently I only have a LG G4 smartphone. Maybe if I stick with the hobby, Santa can treat me to a ‘real camera’ 😀

I’m Karen ~ At the moment I am running into problems taking indoor photos for my online jewelry shop. I used to get by fine with my little Cybershot, in the natural light by my window, but for some reason the flash has been wanting to go off, in spite of changes in settings. Do not want to use flash.
So I am looking for solutions. Would love to buy a better camera, but not really in the budget now. If I do, I am considering a Nikon 3300, or maybe a Canon Rebel T5. If anyone has any experience with indoor close ups in natural light, I would surely appreciate any suggestions.
*Thank You*

I’ve been shooting seriously since 1986, when I got my first SLR. In 1990, I started teaching darkroom photography on fine art papers using the Zone System, and basic “how to use your camera” courses. I now teach digital SLR courses, lead seminars for critiquing each others’ photos, and teach black and white digital photography. I try to enter as many shows and competitions as possible and encourage my students to do so as well!
I look forward to participating in this group.

Hi folks, I am re-registering since my details were apparently not recognised (I’ve seen this a few times, perhaps there was an update that I missed?)
I’m UK based, shooting Nikon D810 for a wide range of photography and consider myself at best ‘an accomplished amateur’. I’ve done paid work, but it is not my main source of income.
Mainly I shoot fashion/historical events (my wife is an Historical costumier, so plenty of product shots!), but I love shooting landscape and macro images too, as well as a few specific sports (Martial arts & Equestrian).
Delighted to be part of the LS community and looking forward to improving my photography and processing skills.
