Allows Edits? YesNow is the beach-season in the Northern Hemisphere.
South African beaches are rumoured to be coloured red by shark blood – perhaps you´d like to prove him wrong Tobie. Oregon beaches are coarse and gray according to frogdaily´s images. Not so many beaches in Baghdad Chris ?
Icelandic beaches are mostly black and impossible to walk on barefoot on a sunny day.
This image is taken on a windy day last year on the beach of South Western Iceland.CC: @Tobie, @frogdaily, @admin, @tersha, @Rob

Allows Edits? YesI belive that your images of your lovely family give a hint 🙂 I´m not either a fan of beach sunbathing, I prefer beach-riding. I´ll post some old images later. Now off to down town to celebrate the victory over Austria. Monday it´s you and us – too exciting – think I´ll soothe my nerves with a rod in the river.

June 23, 2016 at 12:46 am #259931
I must admit I’m not one for sun bathing at the beach. When we go down their we put on our dive booties and explore a rocky area somewhere. Or we pack a backpack and walk down the beach and back for hours (our most popular beaches are quite long – our longest up to +/- 30km – so one can usually choose how long / far you want to go).

Lovely shots above! that black beach is just out of this world @elinl!
No doubt what Kayleigh thought of her first encounter with a beach! She sat right there and could not understand why we wanted to move even an inch further!
We’ve done a 50km coastal hike in this area – the sand so white it hurt your eyes when the sun shone on it. I’ll see if I can get more shots of these beaches on my home laptop later today.

Lovely Island. When we went there we booked a few days at Chumbe Island which is totally ‘green’ (everything sun-powered and all cooking done over the fire) and has its own local reef 150m from the land. One of the handful of places in the world where you can see (and hold if you’re brave!) the land living Coconut Crab which can grow up 5kg in weight! If you ever go to Zanzibar @elinl, try to include Chumbe (http://www.chumbeisland.com/). Amazing place!

At a surface elevation of 6,225 ft Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, and has some pretty good casinos as well. In the winter you can Ski the mountain and in the summer the Lake. This was taken at Thanksgiving in November.

Allows Edits? YesNot all Icelandic beaches are black – Löngufjörur – or “Long Beach” is located on Snæfellsnes peninsula, Western Iceland – has yellowish gray sand. It covers a huge area during ebb tide. It is a popular beach for horse riding – we were a group that for some years spent a week every summer riding there. The horses loved it and the riding is pretty fast. Some of the images were taken with my first digital camera – a first generation Coolpix – that soon “drowned” while swim-riding in a water with strong undercurrents (the horses barely made it – caused the death of several mobile phones, cameras and three horses of a rider that went in some minutes after us). The next camera – Canon Ixus – was also short-lived – probably because of overdose of salt and sand. No cameras aboard those trips anymore. Besides one falls off every once in a while – risky for camera.

This looks like a lot of fun, @elinl! It’s worthwhile shopping around for waterproof cameras – thay’re very affordable and more common these days! The latest GoPro’s as well as others. Can’t miss out on the opportunity to capture memories such as this! Click here for a long list of available waterproof cameras.

Hi Elin,
Great shots, especially the first and third.
If you are in the market for an “action” camera, do some research.
The biggest problem is their enormous wide angle.
Most of the time 170 degrees angle. You have camera’s than can select between 170 and 135 degrees, that is already better. (usually they lower the resolution in 135 degrees, using only a part of the sensor)
This wide angle means you have to be really, close (and I mean REALLY CLOSE) to a subject otherwise it is very, very small in the image.
For your “horses on the beach” pictures, you will not get results as in the pictures that you show us.
There is a new camera in a crowdfunding stage. Sound promising. (Although still 150 degree field of view, but in 4k so you can crop)https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/revl-arc-the-world-s-smartest-action-camera–2#/

It was indeed cold, probably around -35C (-31F). @Tobie, I don’t think I can explain cold 😉 but we didn’t want to remove our scarves for the 15 seconds it takes to take a picture@Erik, We do ice swim but only after a really hot outdoor bath, it’s really popular around here; probably the nicest thing to do in winter, IMHO. And the colder, the better.

Looks like David Chesterfield and I frequent the same beaches. Love his dawn shot of Main Beach but here are a couple of different shots of the same spot. His Fingal shot is of one of the bluebottle jellyfish that invade us around this time of year. I see these so often but have never taken one from low down, many thanks for the inspiration Dave in fact the shot has given me a whole lot of ideas. Have to say that Fingal Beach/Dreamtime beach are my favourite spots on the planet. The buried branches are my Fingal offering. And finally Coolangatta. Stunning, beautiful glorious unless you are catching the tail end of a cyclone. A couple of shots from two or three years back. The foam isn’t pollution its natural foam stirred up by the wild seas. Oh how I wish that the stainless steel shower structure wasn’t there but it was. One day I will sit down and clone it out. But what a fluke the colour of her clothes was exactly the same as that of the wild sea. And the foam creatures. As I said natural foam. I have waited for a repeat of the weather that produced this but it hasn’t happened…… yet. Beaches….. I walk several miles every day on the most glorious beaches with my lovely wife but every day is different…. beaches are ever changing.
Peter
