Like most of my photography, this was To be honest I was a little tipsy on a weekend away with some friends on a canal boat and I was doing some long exposure shots. A car drove over the bridge leaving a light trail and I thought ‘Hang on, I’ve got that new crazy bright LED torch!’… Cue drunken running round in the dark with @munksy!
Here’s one of the better ones. We were just starting to paint in the underside of the bridge when a lonely swan swam by. I’d ideally get rid of my two friends hanging about in the left of shot, but moved the camera so I’ve got nothing to mask with.
Anyone else tried this before?

Mike, this is stunning! I love seeing your friends in the image showing how it’s done, and the swan just looks cool in a tipsy kind of way. 🙂

The first shot is great Mike. Sometimes the drunken running around in the dark beside a body of water can end in tragedy (especially when there is fairly delicate electronic instruments like cameras involved). This ended up really good.
The second shot (the studio shot) is FREAKIIN AWESOME!! I cant even begin to tell you how much I like it. Great idea executed almost perfectly.

That last shot is absolutely stunning but I also like the simplicity of first shot too @thepaparazzo not many people’s drunken nights out turn into impromptu photoshoots I bet..

Allows Edits? YesI also was intrigued by light painting and read some things about it, and i took advantage of my insomnia to do this, it’s not nearly as good as your’s, but i’m fairly pleased with the result, taken that it was shoot at a minimum distance because it was in my room, and i didn’t dismantle my flashlight so some rays of light are cut, and because i was doing that with my right hand the right top of the photograph didn’t get that much light, i was happy with my attempt, but then i look at your’s and almost cry lol they are stunning… absolutely stunning 🙂

@cbnordeste Catarina, you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself! That’s a great first try… I think you’ve done particularly well to have no light spill given you were just in your room.
Next time, maybe a bigger space though?! It’s quite liberating running around like a crazy person in the pitch dark! -

Allows Edits? YesThanks 🙂 yes, the next time i try this will be definitely in a bigger space and with the righ lights so i don’t lose the movement because of the capsule around the bulbs in the flashlight.
I really appreciate your support, but i’m kinda hard on myself because i really want to improve my photography, and i’m used to constructive criticism (because i’ve studied architecture, and we are always criticizing our projects so we can improve them) and i believe that we need that kind of self criticism, and constructive criticism by others so we can improve our abilities.
I’m anxious to try it in a bigger space, and like you say, run around like crazy in the dark 🙂 i think it will become my favorite exercise 😉
Thanks again for your support, and Good shootings 🙂 -

All these shots above are amazing. I’ve never done the kind of light painting where you are shining a light on something at night or where you are moving around with lights in your hands, etc. All my light painting so far has been where I am using slightly long exposures and moving the camera itself around. Below is just one example. I have a lot of these in files but not online anywhere. This one I was trying to write my name with the camera. Got the C out. Also, it was when I was still putting my watermark on photos I posted online. Stopped doing that because it was taking up so much space and was reading about the pros and cons of watermarks.
The Flickr link is to my light painting album because I got bored one night and decided to see what would happen if I took some of the light painting photos and played around with the editor software. These were all from Christmas last year.
