Hello all, I’m new to the Light Stalking site. I’ve been reading their articles for quite some time now and today I thought it would be a good time to join.
The one photograph that truly influenced me was Ansel Adam’s “Moonrise, Hernandez”. The image is absolutely dramatic and I was hooked as soon as I saw it in a magazine many years ago. I lived in New Mexico for some years and the landscape fascinates me. To me, “Moonrise, Hernandez” truly captures the spirit of New Mexico. To this day I see New Mexico as the base foundation of my photography in colors, scenes, and the type of work I strive for.
I have waxed and waned over the years in photography and as I’m retired now, I look forward to the next phase of my time behind a camera. I still shoot film and my current camera (and will be for years to come) is the Nikon Df. The camera is more than capable of my aspirations and I prefer coupling the older manual lens when I shoot.
I’m excited to be a member of the Light Stalking community.
Cheers,
Tommy

Welcome to LightStalking. I have to salute your commitment to film photography. It is certainly more exacting! I think street photographers, in particular, are moving to film photography. Do you think you will participate with posts in our forums? I suppose you can scan photos in to submit them digitally. Do you do your own developing? It will be interesting to have a committed film photographer in our community.

Albirder,
Thanks for the kind note. Yes, film photography is more exacting and requires a different approach than with digital. I’m always anxious until the film is developed and I have tangible evidence of success or another “learning” experience. It’s been quite a while since I shot film but I’m looking forward to it now that I’m no longer working a full time job.
Yes, I do scan and when the time comes, I look forward to the forums.
Thanks again for your kind welcome.

Most often I talk about the forum opportunities in my greeting. I did not do that since I did not know if you intended to post. We have our critique forum, SharkTank. I encourage you to add your critique to some posts and then give it the old college try. It is like having your own personal photography trainer. I do find I learn as much from critiquing as being critiqued. We also have non-critique forums including the Landscape Forum, the weekend Photography Challenge (Patriotic, this week), various Photography Throwdowns, General Photo ChitChat, and my personal favorite, Mobile Monday. I am guessing that you are not drawn to smart phone photography, but if you have a smart phone, it could really be helpful for certain kinds of film photography, like to quickly size up shooting angles or light. Non-critique forums are a fun way to get to know members and the site. I look forward to your posts.
