My apologies for being absent lately it has been pretty busy for me in the last few months. Is it warm enough out now for people to start trying some light painting assignments?

Ahh – embed code doesn’t work in the forum for videos. You should be able to link to it.

Still a few site glitches – when I’m pasting the embed code it’s not showing up… will have to have a word with @admin!

Finally the area I live in is getting some snow this week. Hopefully there will be enough to go do some light painting ideas I want to shoot by this weekend. Has anyone else been doing anything lately or are we all in hibernation?
What did you have in mind? I will be following along with any projects you’re doing – I wanted to before, but it was a bit hard while travelling. Look forward to see what you come up with!
It has something to do with around 40 tea light lanterns, parchment paper, lighting snow from the inside, steel wool spinning, and some new light tools I made all used in the woods at night. It’s a pretty complex shot and I plan on recruiting a few people to help on it. Want to come over?

@greykat, Thanks Todd, you\\\’ve dragged me out of my current photography ennui AND motivated me to battle the cold outside.
Battling with me were my two favorite photo models, my son and his wife who are always game for the latest antics to which I ask them to participate.
We were going to try the steel wool thingy along with the glow sticks, but the hardware store closed earlier than I anticipated it would so we had to settle with glow sticks alone. But I was still happy with what we accomplished for a first try.
We chose the bandshell in the park across the street from my house, assuming it would be pretty dark in there. There was a lot of snow on the ground and a few lights in the park parking lot and the reflection made it a little lighter than I hoped but we did manage to get a few shots that were semi acceptable.

They were one in front of the other on this one, you can almost see their faces.
This shot they were tossing the sticks back and forth, trying to catch and throw at the same time. After several different attempts we relocated back to the house since steel wool wasn\\\’t in the offing we decided the basement might be darker and was sure to be warmer.

This was my son with the glow sticks stuck into his hair and around his head (the yellow one was held in his mouth) he then proceeded to slowly lower himself into a crouch.
This is my favorite, sticks protruding from his fist as he slowly lowered then raised them.We all had a blast trying this out and are determined to do the outdoors again but are going to wait for warmer weather.
must have been fun……love the last one, I like the first as well….
Cool! I really like the last one.
If you do try the steel wool I don’t remember if I said this or not but you want to get the fine or #0000 as it burns the best. Be careful with the steel wool spinning with nearby flammable objects and people who can get burned. When I’m doing the spinning myself I usually close my eyes or look down to be safe.

You’re a dedicated pair of light painters, I’m pretty sure I’d have weenied out long before the night was over.
Awesome images to prove it.

I wasn’t entirely happy with the light paintings I created earlier in the week so Friday night I headed back underground and here are the results!
There are more images in the article on my site here:
