Although most of it can fall on some other category, like landscape or urban, travel photography has it’s own challenges and rewards!

What does a phoographer do to get away from the humdrum of work? Go on a photography holdiay of course. Derhh!
To encourage Rob @admin to post his holiday ‘snapshots’ for us to see, I’m setting the precedent.
Here’s mine. I’ll add to them over the next few days.

Waiting at the airport is part of the itinerary these days. Finding something to do can be a challenge for some. Not me. I find a window with a view and watch the luggage handlers throw my suitcase across the tarmac.

Accomodation with a view on arrival in Hobart is a pleasant relief from the journey from the top of the country to the bottom. There is always a need to keep the cold out, even in the middle of summer.

An early morning walk was in order on day 1 just to test the weather. It didn’t disappoint. There were 4 seasonal changes before breakfast.

Only the pictures on the wall seemed to lighten the gloom.

Lindisfarne offered hope with it a clatter o masts and ducks.

Maybe tomorrow will bring something more consistant. Snow perhaps?

What a great set, Tom! Each and every one tells it’s own story, my friend.

Thanks Toad. No abandoned buildings yet but I’m looking. I’ll give you a yell if something turns up. The weather here should suit you. F…ing freezing!!!

Day 2 saw the usual tourist stuff. A walk around Salamanca and Battery Point. Plenty here for the photographers eye.

Day 2 and I let the driver take over. Anywhere please was the request. I love a woman in charge.

Richmond is a typical tourist destination. It has all the old buildings, cichie shops and bus loads of icecream eating kids and grannies. Step off the main drag and its all yours. That where I headed. I got a few of the local attractions first just so I could say I’ve been there.

You should have been there, Grethel @greatgreats.
Day 3 to 5 was spent in a small town on the east coast called Orford. Its a ‘shack’ town. Thats not a bad thing. Its the name people use for their holiday cottages by the sea. Some of these so called ‘shacks’ have grown into scrambling edifices to a great Aussie passtime; holidays by the sea.

I was fortunate enough to stay with our friend who has a shack on the water. The cliff face walk ramble right past her back yard down to the beach. All a bit hard to take really.

    Thanks @chaseguttman and others.
The east coast of Tassie is a photographers paradice really. There’s no work in it. Just point and press and something always seems to come out OK. That’s all I do.
    Here’s some samples of such.

I love it when all the hard work is done before you even look through the camera.

Hobart is next. I’ll Post them tomorrow when I find them.

That first one blew my socks off @tomdinning

  • Avatar Image tomdinning said 3 months, 2 weeks ago:

That I would like to see, Mo @moph. Was anyone killed?

After burning out with all the beauty on the East Coast we headed back to Hobart for a bit of wining (or is that whining?) and dining.
Hobart is one of those places where people believe Tassie is the only place worth living and they produce the best of everything. This may well be true but do they have to rub it in?
Being a TAsmanian does require a special quality. Some say to be a true TAsmanian you must marry nothing more distantly rlated than your second cousin. I don’t believe that but I did notice that Tasmanians have a strange way looking at you with their third eye.

They are big on eating and markets so I headed for Salamanca once again to join in on the festivities.

This guy wanted his photo taken. I didn’t argue.

I just love the young kids out there doing their thing.
