Thank you for the kind words @karamen I’m really pleased with the series and may revisit it from time to time to replace some of the images I am not completely happy with but the number 50 will stay.

I’m sort of wondering if I should get it made into a book, what do you think?Check It Out

The end of the candid commuter seriesI’ve been running a series for a while now of candid shots of the various commuters that I meet on my many journeys to and from London, most of these were shot using a mobile phone and processed by apps on those phones. I’ve reached 50 images so have decided to end the series, at least for a while any way. …[Read more]

Nicely done @jonostan, you are already one step ahead of me because I’ve never had the guts to ask someone if I can take their picture.. It looks like a candid shot rather than posed so he was obviously pretty relaxed about you being around. I usually have a 50-200 lens but always feel like I am cheating :)

With the muted colours in the rest…[Read more]

@capetown99 sorry but I don’t think @admin is getting itchy, I’ve read discussions that you have been involved in where he has stated the problem and what is being done to rectify it.

Web design can be a time consuming process especially when you are planning a radical overhaul of a current site, please cut him some slack and wait for the new…[Read more]

@b-rice it is a really difficult place to be, I did a wedding (my first and probably only) as a favour to a friend. I had two meetings with the couple, a solo scouting mission to the venue and even drafted in a friends daughter who is studying photography at college to act as assistant. We did not get paid and it took 2 months before I got an…[Read more]

In the zone and other adventuresI’ve been road testing my new camera (Pentax K-3 in case I hadn’t mentioned it already, yes I am very excited about it!) Last week I went on a Bank of America camera club photo walk along and around the Thames and yesterday I decided to try my hand a zone focussing and street photography. This was my first time…[Read more]

@caimi initially I had a Pentax K-r after a photographer friend of mine recommended the Pentax brand and it had some good reviews over a similar spec Nikon, obviously I bought lenses so I’m pretty much tied to the brand. Having said that the K-3 has had some really good reviews and I think Pentax are starting to compete with Canon and Nikon up to…[Read more]

Secret GardensAfter the death of my K-r I spent a month without a camera while I waited for it to be repaired, sadly repair was impossible so with the help of a little insurance money I’ve upgraded myself to the Pentax K-3. The shots below are my test shots taken in my garden using an older Sigma 70-300 “macro” lens

Thanks @joanna where can I see some of your work?

He shoots a lot in similar areas to me so I recognise some of the places in his “across the street” series, he has a really good eye, definitely something to aspire to!Check It Out

@jonostan anywhere with tourists is a great place to start because it is so much easier to blend in, Trafalgar Square, China Town and Oxford Street are my main areas beside the train and tend to give great opportunities for street photography

Eventually I’d like to get to somewhere near the level of this guy…[Read more]

  • ed.aldridge Replied to a Topic (Quick Intro)

Hi @jonostan one of the things that I learnt the hard way is that no amount of post processing will make a bad image good but it will make a good image great. If you shoot raw then you will always need to do a certain amount of editing, this can range from slight colour tweaks to B&W or HDR conversions.

One thing that I read which really…[Read more]

  • ed.aldridge Replied to a Topic (High Key image comment please)

Hi @rosiegirl the white background is too bright and over powers everything in the picture. I think you have a bit too much going on as well, I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to be looking at. This is a personal opinion here but I think high key images work best when there is a single element to look at, a blood red rose on a white…[Read more]

@nanyar I appreciate the input but I am happy with the composition and style it is more the editing that I am trying to improve, with what you have said I may do a colour version and see how that looks.

@tobiepsg I have Elements 11, is that a late enough version to have the Fill / Content Aware / Dissolve thing you mention or are you talking…[Read more]
