Lovely. This is a favorite topic of mine. When I had my studio, agriculture made up a huge portion of my client list. I’ve spent a lot of time in fields of all types.

Thanks Robert. I went on a number of ‘harvest’ photo shoots back in the 90s. I always enjoyed them. They were quite exciting. I was always fascinated by the frenzy of getting the crop in.

Allows Edits? YesI agree, all great shots but I kinda like the first one most. Something about a car left abandoned with open doors and no people around. There’s a story there but we can never know what it is. Has a sort of ‘North by Northwest’-ish feel about it. (cue the biplane) 🙂

I like the first one too. That was shot in Argentina. I was riding with the farmer looking at his fields. They have a HUGE problem with an overpopulation of doves, and they destroy his crops. As we were driving down that road, the doves would rise up from the road and the crops near the road, and I’m not kidding- they were so thick that you couldn’t see anything. We had gotten out of the truck to look at some of the damage.

I share your fascination with grasses etc. Robert. I’m always amazed at the effect they have in the lens – becoming soft and just plain ‘different’.

Allows Edits? YesI agree with Elin. The bird shot is exquisite. It looks like the smallest bird ever in this environment. The second shot is also wonderful, great colour and depth Tobie.
The shot of the lion really underlines how it blends into its surroundings so well but what the heck is going on with zebras? I mean black and white stripes? In Africa? What the?

Allows Edits? YesI like this a lot too 3pco. I’m reminded of a wonderful camera shot from the opening scenes in “Gladiator’ when all we see is a hand gently brushing the grasses as an unseen person walks through the fields. Robert’s reference to leaves rustling in the wind brought this to mind and your shot exactly creates that sense.

Allows Edits? YesWow there are so many great shots in this thread. I love this one Robert. With such a shallow DOF, the framing works really well by including a reasonable portion of the out-of-focus background. When the light finds the grass seeds, it makes them more than mere plants…they’re one of nature’s beautiful creations.

Allows Edits? YesI still regret posting it here though Robert. It tells me I’m just not out there taking enough photographs. Having said that, these litle guys are almost an urban pest here. One local council has spent a small fortune trying to get rid of them as they decimate the local football field in their thousands.
In fact, I’ve noticed lately that there are huge flocks of all sorts of birds everywhere here in Adelaide and birds of a feather definitely do flock together. Driving to work, I might see a field full of these sulphur-crested cockatoos on one side and a huge flock of pink galahs on the other side. You name it, pidgeons, ducks, ibises, galahs, cockatoos and many more…they are and have been everywhere.

Thanks Graham. There’s hardly an image I process lately that doesn’t take at least a brief visit to LAB for colour correction or enhancement. I’ve stopped using all of the LR and PS official sharpening filters in favour of blur sharpening as well.
