Reviving Dahlia’s original post which got quite full.

        Pareidolia

        Quoting

We have all sometimes looked at the clouds and seen faces of animals or humans or perceived other objects. We also perceive faces of humans, animals, or others in everyday objects like tree trunks, vegetables, fruits, household objects, etc.

This psychological phenomenon of seeing faces in inanimate objects is called Facial Pareidolia and it has been suggested that Pareidolia is a consequence of the brain’s information processing system.

        According to Wikipedia,

Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon in which a mind responds to an image or sound by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists.

When we are often doing nothing, our mind still continues to make out any figures from the surroundings or the objects around. Have you photographed any of those objects? If not start looking around you for objects with faces ”

Interesting image Robert. One of the sheep’s horns looks like the face of a dragon 🙂

I used to shoot a lot of ancient pictographs, which is what really triggered the association in my mind. I didn’t notice the horns were going the wrong direction though.

This rock formation is called the Three Gossips, found in Arches National Park, Utah.  It’s easy to see how it was named.

Wow! Yes, can see why they are named so. Love the image and how you have captured the light there. A very interesting image Pamela 🙂

Good example Pam, I have been to the Moab area a number of times and remember this formation. Wasn’t much on carrying a camera back in those days. I did take a couple of photos 10 years ago when we did a quick drive through, It was 124 degrees outside and being out of the air conditioned car was just miserable.

We were there in mid-Spring and the temperatures often climbed into the 80s and 90s. Those temperatures really make for interesting skies however, especially at the end of the day.
