Thanks Leanne, I notice our Aggies seem to have furrier stamen heads than those shown in DC's pic as well. My aggies are nearing the end of their prime so perhaps they are deteriorating? Adelaide is famous for its abundance of aggies, both purple and white, although I heard recently that there is a new variety coming out which is red/pink with white streaks. I see a photo op coming up!

Why do you ask?  I'm not a great video guy.  Better with stills.  I just take these challenges as more about general visual arts than specifically stills photography, so yes, I'm happy to throw in some movies from time to time.  Even though they may be crap.  They do at least begin with A.  Or at least I made a connection to them beginning with A.  If you don't like them I apologise  for polluting the aesthetic purity you are looking for.  But I will carry on doing it, if for no other reason than to bring a little fun to the place, and some variety.  I'm particularly likely to carry on doing it if you find it annoying.  Love and hugs.  🙂

Thanks Dahlia! He's probably not looking forward to his flight from Africa's south most country accross India, to Siberia and northern China (5,000km+ depending on the exact route)! On average more than 100,000 of these birds are killed annually during these flights for food purposes.

Hopefully this isn't too repetitive (I have posted a few of this topic this year) but Aurora Borealis. This one was taken off of our deck, in a city (some light pollution) so I was pleased with how this one turned out despite the challenges…

And I should add that the aurora forecast for tonight, New Years Eve, looks good…and we have clear skies. Fingers crossed!

Lol.  Not really an arachnophobe.  But you are not going to find me playing with Tarantulas any time soon.  🙂  Once did a job that involved laying in a drainage pipe under a road.  We got in at night, pulled up the rubble at the end of the pipe behind us make it lightproof, then turned on some lights.  It was like a set from an Indiana Jones movie, with spiders going up and down about as far as you could see.  We turned it into a watching job.  And spent a very pleasant couple of days enjoying the sunshine from a field half a mile away.

      • #322178

My first one would fit easily in the palm of your hand. This is an adult female – she is about the size of a saucer with her legs out like that. There is an adult male in the web behind her.

They are mildly venomous – though unlike most Australian creatures they are not harmful to humans.

With all these great spider photos it feels like time for a new Throwdown! Ian, I don't collect them but I do seek them out and I think photographing them has helped me with my “anxieties” around these eight legged critters. There is one I took of a popcorn, that pops up on our screensaver from time to time and it makes my eldest shriek! And yes, yours has beautiful colouring.

Marvellous image, Elin of the Argan oil production.  It should definitely be a perfect part of a photo-journalism exhibition.  If you are interested in composites, you could additionally substitute the pink basin with something with a  more period feeling.  Then it could also be like a painting with possibilities in a different type of exhibition.

Great stuff, forgive me for getting a bit carried away, but this image does that to me!

Great catch! I think those of you that do street photos are so very brave! Does it get easier Kent?

I enjoy street photography. It's never gotten any easier for me in terms of confronting people. I do much of my street photography with my iPhone- these days. That seems to help, as it draws little attention compared to a DSLR.

Like the earthy tones in this shot Tersha and the way they compliment the colours of the fruit. Lovely.

Tersha, your apple stilllife is terrific.  The colours are intriguing and the lighting on the yellows and golds, captures and holds my attention.  Thank you.

Very nice – love the curves. I keep looking at the length of the beak relative to the size of the bird.

Its almost a 3D image the way the bird pops out from the background. Brilliant.

LeanneC, I really enjoyed your aurora borealis photograph.  You did a great job capturing the reds and greens with the stars and town lights.  May I please ask where this photograph was taken?  Thank you.

Hi Horatio! Thanks for the kind words. This photo was taken in the city of Merritt (2 and 1/2 hours northeast of Vancouver) Canada. We don't get the really big auroras like they do farther north so we have to watch for big storms.

Thanks Graham. No ladder but the same idea. This is the “Pool of Arches”, an underground water reservoir from the 8th century (not used as such now) and I was on the steps going down to the bottom.

Cool. Leading lines too, from his strumming hand to the fret-board then up to his head.
