Light Stalking Photography Contest
This month’s theme is “The Dynamics of Colour.” Show us what happens when colour takes charge of the frame.
Enter your strongest colour photograph for the August Light Stalking competition. The overall winner receives $100 via PayPal, while the People’s Choice winner receives $100 in Light Stalking store credit. Winning and shortlisted photographs are shared with our audience, so your work has a real chance to be seen.

August theme
Colour can pull a viewer straight to the subject, split a frame into competing areas, or change the mood of an otherwise ordinary scene. For August, we want photographs that use that energy deliberately.
Your image might be built around one dominant hue, a sharp complementary pairing, soft shifts through related colours, or a small colour accent that changes the whole composition. The subject is open. What matters is the way colour makes the photograph work.
Look at street scenes, portraits, landscapes, still life, wildlife, architecture, or close details. Pay attention to how light changes colour and how neighbouring colours affect each other.
We keep the theme broad on purpose. A loud frame can work. So can a restrained one. Send us the photograph that makes your interpretation clear, and give it the chance to reach the Light Stalking audience.

Submissions are open throughout August. We will review every eligible photograph in September and choose the winners. Read the rules before entering so your photograph can be considered.
Light Stalking has three membership tiers. Bronze members are entitled to three entries per month. Silver members get six entries per month. Lifetime Gold members get ten entries for every monthly competition.
You must have clicked the shutter button yourself. You must have full rights to the photo. We do not accept AI artwork, or other types of digital art. You cannot add or remove significant elements from the photo. We may ask to view the raw file of your images before we award any prize money. You cannot submit other people’s photos.
This photo contest is open to photos taken at any time so if you have an archive full of great shots, this is an opportunity for you to give them some love.
Any photos that we feel have been unethically taken or altered will be removed from consideration. Do not endanger yourself or others, including fauna, when taking a photograph. Do not cause harm to the environment when taking a photograph. These are the general guidelines, but we reserve the right to make the judgement ourselves on whether you have followed the spirit of these guidelines.
Any member can enter the competition. If you’re under 18, make sure you have parental consent. You retain full copyright in every photograph you submit. By entering, you give Light Stalking permission to display your image and use it, with attribution, to promote this contest on our websites, social channels, and other online media. We do not take ownership of your work.
Hell no. Your photograph remains your property and you keep full copyright.
We want to help people see your work, not take it from you.
How will we use your photo?
We need to display entries for the competition to work. We may also feature your photograph on www.lightstalking.com, in the forum at www.lightstalking.us, or on our social channels. When we share it, we attribute the work and tag you where possible. This is how strong entries, winners, and runners-up reach people beyond the judging panel.
If you do not want us to use your photograph for promotion, send us a note and we won’t.
For best results, you will want to upload an image with the longest side being 1200 pixels and a resolution of 72 DPI.
The Grand Prize is $100 for the overall winner via PayPal, and $100 of store credit on Light Stalking for the People’s Choice Winner. Of course, all of the great shots from the winners to the runners-up will be shared far and wide on our website and social media and make it in front of hundreds of thousands of people.
So get started straight away by choosing your entry option below.
Each month, we invite a special guest photographer to judge the contest.
Guest judge: Dahlia Ambrose
Dahlia has been involved in the photography education space for over a decade and the photo tutorials have been read by well over a million people online. She is an active stock shooter and a full time educator here at Light Stalking.

I want to take this opportunity to tell you how supportive your organization has been since I first joined. You and your employees respond quickly and are always encouraging. It’s the support I’ve been looking for…

Can I honestly say you are one of the most helpful companies I’ve ever dealt with. To get a reply is nice. To get one within a few minutes is fabulous.
