The Most Popular Stories from the Last 7 Days

The Single Most Important Element In Every Photograph And Why You Should Include It In Yours – As photographers, we are all exhibitionists to a degree and crave kudos and recognition for our photos.  The best way to satisfy this urge is to make photos that create some sort of emotional connection with the viewer…preferably lots of viewers actually.  So just how do you do this?  One way of course is to push the cute button and take photos of babies and cute animals.  However, this is really not necessary and there are other approaches you can take if you really want to take photos that are meaningful to you as well as the viewer.

How to Find Time for Your Photography Passion – In this day and age, time is a premium commodity and it can seem to be permanently scarce for most of us.  However, just about anybody armed with enough motivation, ability to compromise and a modicum of self-awareness can make time to pursue their photography with passion and meaning.  The tips in this article are practical, all-inclusive and easy enough to implement.  Most importantly, know that you can do it.  It doesn't matter if you have the best equipment, an exotic locale or the perfect light to work with.  A great photographer can find a way to take great photos despite all of those obstacles.

The Top 12 Keys to Creativity For Photographers – Our numbers are increasing and it can be really hard to stand out amongst the millions of photographers in existence today.  However, it can be done.  The key is to be unique and creative.  Easier said than done perhaps, but there are steps you can take and practice over time that will enable you to break out of bad habits, lack of awareness and whatever fears might be holding you back from doing what your heart of hearts is calling you to do.  Consider this a 12 step program for creatives!

Sharpen Your Images With Some Useful Photoshop Techniques – Sharpening your photos can be a bit more complicated than it might seem at first glance.  First, you have to consider things like whether you are sharpening for print, the web, or for devices such as the iPad.  Also, different photo software and even different versions of the same same software, like Photoshop CS5 and CS6 for example, contain different sharpening filters.  The Photoshop sharpening techniques in this guide will surpass the dedicated sharpening filters and give you more control and a better result.

What You Missed in the Light Stalking Community

Submit your photo to this week’s photography challenge – Staged Photographs! The opposite of candid shots, staged photos are set up and planned.  Share your staged photos with us this week in the forum.  Have fun if at all possible!

We have had some great responses to our last few photography challenges on the forum.  Last week’s photography challenge was Candid Shots! – Surprise us with your candid photos.  Candid shots are unplanned and spontaneous captures of a moment in time, and not intentionally set up ahead of time.

Also, check out the Body Parts! challenge from the week before.  Bits and pieces or parts in their entirety.  It doesn't matter if they are human parts or even parts of something that's actually alive.  Use your creativity with this one.

Other Weekly Photography Challenges:

View this week’s Mobile Monday Challenge.  Photos submitted must be taken on, and any editing done on a mobile device.
