Visit of the Gods, Yet Alone in the Crowd

Welcome to the weekly Light Stalking community catchup!

In case it passed you by, a few days ago Tersha gave us a new assignment amidst launching a new set on “isolation vs connection.” More specifically, it is about the sort of material notion of being alone in the crowd. Being alone requires no further explanation, but a “crowd” can be reduced to the overwhelming clash derived from a variety of multitudes.

After reading “alone in the crowd”, an instant memory snapped into my mind; the epic party scene, from one of my favorite films of all time. It all starts with a frightening transition, the visual journey quickly turns upon the appearance of a surreal quartet. Cringe arrives in the form of a creepy little dude, and eventually, we start feeling at ease with the loud rhythms of the night. At last, we join a sweaty Roman crowd shutting down their absolutely troubled minds…

Among the jumping Botox, “wearing” the same needless tan, a notoriously happy figure turns his back to us. Now that's some high-quality main character introduction! With this well-aged male, our journey begins. Up is down, everything goes crazy, and Latinoamerica se hace presente. With some preset dubby effect, he ignites a cigarette, and this garish reference comes to sense…

Or according to Google Translate

To this question as teens, my friends always gave the same answer, “the party.” I answered, “the smell of old people's houses”. The question was, “what do you really like most in life?” I was destined for sensitivity. I was destined to become a writer.

In this particular fragment, Sorrentino developed that lonely and staggering state of human existence through the means of audiovisual language. And for this week, we have been invited to develop a richer understanding of this social phenomenon we all have experienced at least once in our lives.

Follow this link, and share your own statement of what it feels to be alone in the crowd. And yes, it can be metaphoric as you're about to see!

Photo of the Week

Despite our many different beliefs, we human creatures tend to feel fond towards countless gods and goddesses; and yet we feel alone and left behind. By itself, this image is intriguing enough — but with the provided caption, it all falls into place.

Isolating a subject within a moderate crowd like this is an achievement by itself, but is the facial expression and the overall composition that makes this such a powerful frame. Vibrant colors, quick motion, harsh light conditions — everything comes down together when showing our deep relationship with the unknown.

Congrats Timothy, thanks for sharing such a high-quality photograph with us!

Patrick is finding the process of printing his own photos at home to be very rewarding and extremely interesting. He hasn't scratched the surface when it comes to the choices of paper available. First, he bought some papers which experienced folks suggested as a starting point, to make sure everything is set up properly. He'll be searching for a matte or pearl-type finish and see how that works out. But so far, he is loving the entire process, from capturing the image in the field to holding the final print in his hands.
