{"id":353933,"date":"2018-07-20T11:00:58","date_gmt":"2018-07-20T15:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lightstalking.com\/?p=353933"},"modified":"2018-07-19T23:09:34","modified_gmt":"2018-07-20T03:09:34","slug":"photographer-up-close-and-personal-with-a-polar-bear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lightstalking.com\/photographer-up-close-and-personal-with-a-polar-bear\/","title":{"rendered":"This Photographer Just Got Up Close And Personal With A Polar Bear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The life of a wildlife photographer is probably one of the most exciting out there but it certainly isn\u2019t for everybody.<\/p>\n<p>But for those of us brave enough to undertake this field, there is likely no thrill greater than that of getting the perfect capture of wild animals in their natural environment.<\/p>\n<p>Yet sometimes the National Geographic dream can go sideways and you find yourself staring down a charging polar bear.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_353935\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-353935\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-353935 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lightstalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Wildlife-Photographer-and-Polar-Bear-Get-Up-Close-and-Personal.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lightstalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Wildlife-Photographer-and-Polar-Bear-Get-Up-Close-and-Personal.jpeg 1047w, https:\/\/www.lightstalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Wildlife-Photographer-and-Polar-Bear-Get-Up-Close-and-Personal-300x206.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.lightstalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Wildlife-Photographer-and-Polar-Bear-Get-Up-Close-and-Personal-768x528.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.lightstalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Wildlife-Photographer-and-Polar-Bear-Get-Up-Close-and-Personal-500x344.jpeg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-353935\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image by echoyan on Pixabay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Maxim Deminov found himself in just that position on a recent shoot in Katmai National Park and Reserve in Alaska, a land known for its pristine, primal vistas and the home of formidable animals.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/fstoppers.com\/animal\/photographer-has-standoff-polar-bear-while-shoot-264581\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FStoppers<\/a> points out, it is rare for a polar bear to attack a human unprovoked unless it is protecting its babies or is somehow otherwise taken by surprise. Deminov\u2019s response to the bear chasing him down, caught all on camera, is perhaps not the course of action most of us would take but we\u2019re all the luckier for Deminov\u2019s bravery as we get this absolutely epic footage out of the whole ordeal.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, this is not Deminov\u2019s first encounter with a polar bear and he even joked to website MNN that \u201cOne day a polar bear is going to eat me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A grim outlook indeed but probably a revelation that is par for the course if you sign up to work with animals like polar bears.<\/p>\n<p>The encounter recalls Timothy Treadwell and the movie about his story, \u201cGrizzly Man.\u201d Taking place in the same park in Alaska, Treadwell\u2019s familiarity with a group of bears ultimately lead to his and his girlfriend\u2019s deaths as they attempted to live among them.<\/p>\n<p>Wildlife photography is often some of the most dynamic and breathtaking work out there but we often forget that some fields of it can be quite fraught with danger.<\/p>\n<p>Deminov\u2019s story may be common but that doesn\u2019t make it any less harrowing.<\/p>\n<p>That said, there are probably some awesome stories that come
