I join this group with some trepidation but also determination!
At 62 I have been taking pictures, on and off, since I was a teenager, but now I want to up my game.
I have done some paid work as PetsnPictures, but now I want to get into portraits and especially concept or alternative portraits. But there is SO much to learn! Lighting, Posing and editing all require study and understanding. Although age should have taught me patience I am impatient to get on with all of it and as a result often get side-tracked and don’t cover the detail as I should. I hope joining this community will help me stay focused and pointed in the right direction. I have LOTS of questions that I want to ask and I will try and contribute my own thoughts and ideas where I can.
Looking forward to getting to know you.
Philip

Allows Edits? YesHello Philip, welcome to LightStalking! Great to have you here 🙂
As a portraitist myself, I have to say that I find this image rather mystifying. Despite the fact that it’s high-key and that it fades into white, I find the atmosphere a little bit chilly, even noir in a way, maybe because of the expression on the child’s face.
This is actually one of my favorite photos that I’ve seen on LightStalking recently, due to this unusual vibe that floats in between something light and something unfathomable.

Hi Jansenka,
Great to hear from a portrait photographer so soon! How do I get to see your work? Can’t seem to find a way to do that here. Do you have a website for Flickr page?
Thanks for the comments. I had not viewed the picture in the way that you suggested, but see what you mean.
One of my big frustrations is that I tend to take lots of images and then sort out the best ones at the end, almost as a matter of luck (that’s what happened here). I am not planning in advance to achieve anything specific and I want to work towards that end.
That challenges both the ability to create an image in the mind and the technical ability to than actually produce it!
I am setting up my kit later today to try and do just that! I know what I am after in the picture this time, let’s see if I can capture it!

Allows Edits? YesHi Philip, you can see my portfolio at http://www.jasenkagrujin.com
I understand the frustration you described – but I think there’s nothing wrong with that. I guess when we don’t work for any client and when there is no pressure, it feels kinda natural to keep it open-ended and without any overly specific scope.
I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work 🙂
