In a slew of product announcements from the legendary optics firm, Canon also introduced an updated EOS Rebel T7 (EOS 2000D) DSLR camera aimed at budding photographers on a budget.

Not only that, but also Canon seeks to woo current smartphone photographers away from their headsets to an entry-level Rebel T7 camera instead.

As Canon states up front, “Upgrading from a smartphone camera to an entry-level interchangeable lens camera (ILC) can be considered to some people a daunting task. Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, supports those looking to advance their skills by continuously developing and evolving its gear.”

The new Rebel T7 will have an updated 24MP sensor to replace the current T6 model in the company’s lineup.

In terms of specs, the new Rebel T7 will carry over all of the most beloved aspects from the T6 including the Digic 4+ processor, a 9-point conventional autofocus, and familiar controls and design layout.

The recently announced Canon 4000D will slot right underneath the Rebel T7 in terms of price and capability and is the successor in many ways to the T6 featuring “18MP sensor and Digic 4+ processor but sees its screen size drop to a low-resolution, 230k dot 2.7″ LCD” according to DP Review. There is no word on a North American release date as of yet but the camera promises to be the cheapest DSLR ever launched.

The EOS Rebel T7 will be available in North America and worldwide starting in April 2018 with a choice of lenses. The EOS Rebel T7 will be available with a EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS II lens for $USD 549.99.

With capabilities beyond many smartphone cameras and a level of access that welcomes beginners and novice photographers alike, the Canon EOS Rebel T7 could present a viable alternative for many people looking for an affordable and feature-filled camera.
