Not one to rest on its laurels, Apple rival Samsung showed off its first-ever triple-camera smartphone today in a move probably meant to appeal to the die hard smartphone photographers out there that are always on the lookout for newer and better gear.
The Galaxy A7 as the company has dubbed it will be a photography powerhouse if Samsung’s lofty promises are to be believed. The smartphone will feature a 8MP ultra-wide f/2.4 camera, a 24MP f/1.7 standard camera, and a 5MP f/2.2 “Depth” camera according to PetaPixel. On the smartphone’s front is a 24MP camera and an LED flash. This apparently powers a feature Samsung calls “Pro Lighting” which promises studio-like effects when shooting a selfie.
Of course, an improved “bokeh” effect is one of the biggest advantages of this setup but the company also touts the smartphone’s low-light capabilities. Namely, the A7 can combine pixels for a lower resolution but higher image quality photo when used in low-light areas. Further, the A7 will come with a “Scene Optimizer” tool that will adjust color, brightness, and contrast depending on the subject of the photo.
Since the A7 is a smartphone we can’t leave out some of its core features: A 6-inch Super AMOLED display powered by a 3,300mAh battery and an octa-core 2.2GHz chipset.
The Samsung Galaxy A7 can have as much as 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage with a microSD slot for 512GB of expanded storage.
The A7 will run Android 8.0 and come in blue, black, gold, and pink color variants. No word on a release date for the North American market, but the A7 should begin hitting European and Asian markets soon with a rollout to others planned after that. Samsung also has not outlined any pricing guidance on the A7 but we’d expect it will be pricey.
