As a photographer, it is both easier and harder than ever to get noticed. Whether it is the crowded sea of social media or the more rarefied public gallery space, standing out from the crowd is tough when you’re part of it.
Smug Mug realizes this and, in an effort to emphasize creators and their contributions, the company is launching a new campaign called “This Lens” that gives photographers the spotlight to showcase their work and tell their stories. And on a platform the size of Smug Mug, no less.
Per the blog post discussing the initiative, Smug Mug hopes to give the world a unique perspective on both photography as well as the photographers themselves with an emphasis on the storytelling that occurs both in front of and behind the lens.
In the initial run of photographers being touted by Smug Mug, we see a range of perspectives and styles that are very different from one another and, here, it seems that the program’s goal is to not only broaden horizons but also maybe teach us all a few new techniques along the way. Too often people find themselves stuck in a creative rut and fresh perspectives can sometimes be the only effective way to get out of that situation hence Smug Mug’s emphasis on diversity of talent and content to “share the perspectives of photographers whose subjects and skill are challenging how we see the world.”
