Instagram Debuts AI Avatar to Interact with Your Followers

AI is in everything these days and is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your take on the situation.

But do we need it to be everywhere?

Companies are certainly in love with it but sometimes it doesn’t make that much sense. Take social media, for example, where users ostensibly are supposed to “interact” and “socialize” with one another. You know, hence the whole “social” thing.

Instagram is rolling out an AI avatar that can take away some of the burdens of interacting with people on its platform and promises to offer your followers an experience similar to talking to you.

Users can generate this avatar via AI Studio and it can use a variety of prompts to customize it for your purposes.

“You can use a wide variety of prompt templates or start from scratch to make an AI that teaches you how to cook, helps you with your Instagram captions, generates memes to make your friends laugh – the possibilities are endless. Your AI can be just for you, or you can share it with your followers and friends, and even make it available for anyone to discover and chat with on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and web.”

This reminds us of the AI features that Snap unleashed not too long ago although this seems to be more public-facing than that option. Of course, this is just part of a range of AI-powered features that parent company Meta is bringing to its services but the ultimate use cases for most of them are still in the unproven stage.
