25 Intriguing Macro Photographs of Bugs

One of the things that draws photographers towards macro photography is the ability to magnify worlds that are mainly lost to us, due to their small stature. One such world is that of small bugs and insects. When you start exploring it with a macro lens, you realise what an absolute world of wonder it can be. That is why we put together this collection of macro photographs of bugs – for a bit of fun and inspiration and the knowledge that a whole new world is available to photograph in your backyard.

If you want to get involved in shooting macro bugs and take a look at our article on the topic and don't let your gear hold you back – you can even reverse the lenses you already have to get the magnification or by yourself some very cheap gear off eBay.

If you are like me and get inspired by images like this, then you might also like to take a look at the work of Thomas Shahan who we featured on this site very early in our life. The thing I really find inspiring about Thomas's work besides the end result is the fact that he doesn't use your traditional macro setup but rather uses a series of nonconventional pieces of equipment to get the results that really stun an audience. And it's not a bad expensive gear for him. It's about gear that works. So take a look at his work here.
