So, another great week in the Light Stalking community that deserves a bit of attention has just happened with our weekly photography challenge dominating activity, a fantastic photo of the week from Patrick as well as several other fantastic contributions from him and others, and a bunch of usual discussions that we continued around composition, workflow, street, wildlife, macro, and using tripods.
Photo of the week
Patrick came through with a cracker this week and it was always going to be one to beat. Federico, the judge, seemed to have agreed with that.
With a clean and square street composition with strong horizontal bands and a vertically moving single figure, the coat over the head gave us humor and ambiguity. Federico emphasized that the success was due to Patrick's remaining visually alert and recognising a fleeting moment as it happens, which, as we all know, is quite a skill when it comes to street photography.
Editor's note: Just to add to Patrick's winning image, it's actually a pretty good lesson in an old street photography trick. That trick is to find a scene that you like and then wait for somebody interesting to walk in front of it. Patrick has found the classic horizontal lines in a very plain formation which in itself is quite interesting and the fact that this person is walking across it presumably protecting their head from the rain makes it a perfect street photography scene. Other street photographers might find graffiti or interesting windows or whatnot, but look for that scene first and then wait for the people who are interesting to walk in front of it and you will get yourself a solid street shot
Last week's Photography Challenge
The theme was natural contrasts and it was our 810th weekly photography challenge. The idea was to use complementary colours found in nature to create a bold composition. We were looking for emotion and simplification, but the challenge became unusually active with over a hundred replies. Subjects included flowers, dragonflies, landscapes, sunsets, wildlife and colourful geological formations which made for a very interesting thread.

Our members' pick section is a place where you can recognise the contributions of other members and images that you thought were worth calling out. Here are a few from this past week.
Patrick is a little bit overrepresented in the weekly wrap-up this week, but honestly his output has been consistently high, and the quality has been off the charts. It was actually me who suggested this one for members' picks, and I'm sure you will agree it's an absolute cracker.
Some interesting threads in the forum
The weekly challenge is always a huge thread every week in the forum, and this week was no different with our 810th challenge-themed natural contrasts. Here are a few of those stronger images that I thought deserved a call out.
Too tough a subject? – This has been a really interesting thread from John Daly who put up one of his images for criticism and to start this this conversation. It's a great example of a photographer questioning whether a subject can be made visual successful in the context of an already shot image. It's well worth joining in over there as there are a few different ideas and opinions thrown around in how to make John's image what he was hoping it would be
