We’ve got some exciting new Picsart features to tell you about today and, like so many of our headlines of late, it involves AI.

What have we got today?

To start, Picsart’s latest update will let you replace the background in a photo. That’s really no big deal, right? Except for it will generate one for you out of whole cloth – a theme we’ve covered on this blog multiple times – and, when combined with the second update, really opens up a whole new world of creative possibilities for users.

The second update involves replacing individual objects within a photo with, you guessed it, AI-generated objects. One example shows an ice cream cone with the edited picture replacing the ice cream in the cone with a pine tree. Another shows your everyday house plant with a white background while the second photo shows that background replaced with a tropical beach scene.

Picsart’s VP of Product Lusine Harutyunyan says in a press release introducing the features, “The new AI Background will serve as an incredibly helpful tool for marketers to place their products in various scenes, while the AI Replace tool brings even more possibilities for endless creativity. We’ve already seen generative AI tools serve various types of users on our platform including both everyday consumers and marketers. We know these latest tools will serve the same wide range of creators.”

One envisioned use for the updates, as demonstrated in the houseplant with white background example, is to give marketing teams the ability to showcase their products in a variety of locations. Of course, as with so many other things AI-related, this, too, is bringing up questions about the future of these endeavors from the aspect of creators such as photographers.
