Apple’s Final Cut Pro 11 Arrives After 13 Years

It’s better late than never.

At least that’s how the old saying goes.

But when it comes to software, 13 years is a really long time.

So why is Apple updating Final Cut Pro all of a sudden?

Some people think it might have something to do with the fact that all of these competitors swarming around the once indefatigable Adobe. And if there is money to be made, the folks at Cupertino are all about it.

Most people probably want to know what Apple waited 13 years to unleash on the public. Well, let’s just say the bag of updates is a mix of welcome to 2024 and some really cool stuff that might just help reestablish Final Cut Pro in the minds of consumers who had forgotten about it.

First, it will be available across Apple’s ecosystem of devices. That means you have the powerful editing capabilities of Final Cut Pro 11 on everything from your Mac Pro to your iPad. It will also feature connectivity with Apple Vision Pro for editing in that medium. In terms of device-specific updates, there will be features found on each that makes sense according to its form factor.

“Final Cut Pro for iPad 2.1 advances the touch-first editing experience with support for Enhance Light and Color; new Live Drawing inks; haptic feedback; even more built-in content, including color-grading presets and dynamic soundtracks; and other meaningful workflow improvements.3 Final Cut Camera 1.1, the intuitive pro recording app for iPhone, adds support for 4K120 fps recording on iPhone 16 Pro, the ability to apply a preview lookup table (LUT) while recording, and capture of Log-encoded HEVC video for smaller file sizes.4 And to supercharge songwriting, beat-making, producing, and mixing, Logic Pro for Mac 11.1 and Logic Pro for iPad 2.1 add support for a new Quantec Room Simulator plug-in.”

Naturally, in addition to the many new features, Apple has not forgotten about the must-have item of the year: AI. Final Cut Pro 11 features some pretty nifty (if not industry standard) AI capabilities that, again, help put it back in the game in this space.
