We’re barely into 2024 and there is already word of some awesome new gear on the horizon.
Today, we’re talking about Canon, a perennial favorite among our readers – this writer included.
And it looks like 2024 is going to be a pretty big deal for Canon fans after years of restrained product launches or even none at all (COVID-19, anyone?).
FStoppers reports no less than two major releases, the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II, are slated for this year with a special emphasis being reserved for the R1. What this means, aside from it coming out ahead of the EOS R5 Mark II, has a lot of the Internet speculating as to the actual specs and features we can expect to see.
What we do know is that the EOS R1 is going to be the flagship mirrorless product and, as such, it is going to get one heckuva marketing campaign behind it. FStoppers again tells us that Canon is going to drip-feed details about the new flagship before it is officially unveiled which is expected to be sometime in the first half of the year. We can infer this from the expected release of the EOS R5 Mark II’s expected second-half of 2024 release.
Of course, most people are wondering how the Canon EOS R1 stacks up against the competition from Sony and Nikon and whether or not Canon brings its features more in line with the competition or continues to maintain its distinct approach. In this vein, FStoppers cites the jack-of-all-trades philosophy of the aforementioned Japanese giants in contrast to Canon.
