This week in the Light Stalking community, urban geometry remained the strongest theme among our participants, with a lot of silhouettes being submitted as well as architectural shadows, hard-edged light, reflection, and repeated pattern images.
We're up to weekly challenge number 807, which was Shadow Play in the City, which attracted a bunch of replies and participants and supplied a lot of this week's strongest images. Member Pat Garrett received photo of the week for a layered street photograph built around a sharply defined performer's silhouette, which was quite intriguing. The new reflective Symmetry challenge already has a couple of submissions, and the new featured throwdown explores small subjects photographed as miniature landscapes
Photo of the week
.Pat Garrett had a fantastic entry this week with this Photo of the Week, as judged by long-time photography educator and Light Stalking writer, Federico Alegria.

Photo of the Week by Pat Garrett
It's one of those strong street photographs combining a performer of the audience and the architectural background to produce a lovely silhouette image. Federico highlighted the difficulty of retaining colour depth and a readable shadow within a busy street scene, so it was a well-deserving photo of the week
Great photos from this week.
There are a heap of really great photographs from this week that we wanted to highlight. Here are a few of the best ones.

The current weekly challenge
This week's weekly challenge, which is our 808th weekly challenge, is reflective symmetry. You can go and submit your own images right here. We're looking for things like mirrored shapes, repeated structures and balanced reflections in windows, polished surfaces and water but don't get too hung up on what we think of the theme as we want to know what you think of the theme we are very liberal with how we interpret these things and your interpretation is just as valuable as ours.
There have already been a few submissions, so make sure you get yours in while the going is good.
A few good reads.
It has been an especially busy week in the forum over the last seven days, and we've had a few really interesting conversations that are probably worth your time. Shadow Play in the City was obviously a very active thread because it was the weekly challenge of last week, but it's worth having a look here because there are some strong, image-rich ideas in there with a broad range of interpretations, including street silhouettes, architecture, windows, night passages, reflections and graphic shadow patterns.
Expansive macro views, a landscape throwdown. – This thread has already been started by Robert Apple, John Daly and Larry Schoen who have entered with some interesting ideas. It's a new feature throwdown asking members to treat a small subject such as a miniature landscape or self-contained worlds as the entire image. Early discussions touch on the difference between true macro and general close-up photography. It is well worth a read.
Look for your thoughts – New member Hank Popik has given us the chance to offer our thoughts on packing for a Alaska trip. People are talking about lens selection, what to carry, batteries, memory card capacity and all of the other fun stuff that photographers talk about when we start to fanboy over gear and travel.
Landscape in infrared – Forum member LightandShadow has given us something to think about with an interesting landscape infrared photograph that has prompted a fair bit of feedback. It's an active shark tank thread involving infrared landscapes and how we perceive them. It's an unusual technique and it's something to think about for landscape photographers who are interested in processing choices as well as getting constructive criticism.
Mobile photography challenge. – We keep an active thread for people who shoot on mobile phones or who just want to share interesting images that they have taken on their iPhone or Android. It always produces some interesting images that you may not expect, but the general rule is that it must be taken on a mobile device and edited on a mobile device. It's well worth taking a look at what people are coming up with.
Members picks. – Another thread we like to keep active is images that our members regard as excellent contributions to the community. It's always nice to log in and find that someone has appreciated your photo enough to repost it with attribution in this thread.
As usual, if you would like to come and join in our active community and conversations, the general rule is to be friendly and be constructive. It's a great place to make friends and find other people who are actively trying to improve their skills in a friendly environment and we would love to have you there. If you're interested, you can pop over to this link and submit your application. We will see you on the inside.
