Kristina Makeeva is a Russian photographer from Moscow who is well known for her fairy tale images that blend fashion and travel. She picked up a camera when she was 16 and has since then been capturing creative photographs covering various genres including wildlife. Kristina’s philosophy is to find beauty in ordinary things.

When looking through Kristina’s portfolio, the brilliant photographs in the “Flamingo Project” caught our eye which is a collection of flamingo images shot in Lake Bogoria, Kenya. Lake Bogoria is a saline and alkaline lake that lies in the African Great Rift Valley in Kenya. Every year a huge population of flamingos flocks to the shores of this lake to feed on the algae.

Here is what Kristina has to say about her incredible trip to Kenya along with stunning images of the flamingos captured there. The magical colors and the beauty of the flamingos are truly hypnotizing.

“It has always been my dream to see flamingos in Kenya. I knew there were a lot of them. So when I was offered to go to Kenya, I happily agreed.

Before the trip, we did not expect much, so everything that we saw was a real gift for us. The beauty of Kenyan wildlife is beyond description and it was a brilliant experience to see animals and birds in their natural habitat. Never expect anything, and be pleasantly surprised!

We shot flamingos on Lake Bogoria, which is far enough from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. We somehow miraculously found ourselves a wonderful driver, we were really very lucky. Many people in Kenya are ready to help you, we are very grateful to all the people who made my dream come true.

Arriving at the lake, I was amazed at the number of birds and the heat. But despite the hot equatorial sun, I was completely immersed in the shooting process that you see on the screen.

I hope you too will be impressed and inspired to new travels.”
